How We Test

Every product review or comparison on Wellnesty is built around a fixed set of criteria for that category, applied consistently regardless of who makes the product. This page explains what those criteria actually are.

Material And Safety

For any product that touches skin or mucous membranes, we check what it’s actually made from, not just what the marketing calls it. Medical-grade silicone, ABS, glass and stainless steel pass. Unspecified blends, jelly rubber and anything that doesn’t disclose its material clearly get flagged. Our body-safe materials guide sets out exactly what we’re checking for.

Real Use, Not Just A Spec Sheet

Where possible, products are used under realistic conditions rather than assessed from a listing alone. That includes checking actual noise level, genuine battery life against the manufacturer’s claim, and whether stated waterproofing holds up.

Value For Money

We compare price against what’s actually delivered, material quality, features, warranty and durability, rather than treating a higher price as automatically better or a lower price as automatically worse.

Comfort And Design

For anything intended for extended or repeated use, comfort, ergonomics and ease of cleaning are assessed directly rather than assumed from photos.

Compatibility

Where relevant, we check compatibility explicitly. Lubricant with condom materials, toy materials with each other, charging standards with common UK plugs. This is one of the most commonly overlooked details in typical reviews.

Same Scorecard For Our Own Products

Wellnesty’s own products go through the identical checklist above, assessed by the same editorial team that reviews everyone else. We don’t have a separate, softer process for our own range.

What We Don’t Do

We don’t accept a product from a brand in exchange for a guaranteed positive review. We don’t publish a review of something we haven’t actually assessed against these criteria. If we haven’t tested something directly, the article says so.

Updating Reviews

Products change, and so do our reviews. When a product is discontinued, reformulated or replaced by a newer model, we update or retire the relevant guide rather than leaving outdated recommendations live.
